Los Angeles, Sep 2: Mangalorean Catholic families in Los Angeles celebrated Monthi Fest with a religious fervor and gaiety, at the residence of Cyril Monis at Riverside, CA on Saturday August 30.
The service began at 5.30 pm with a prayer by Fr Cyprian Carlo. Carol Monis introduced the event and Romeo Sequiera briefed on the importance of Monthi Fest celebration. Thereafter all the children and adults walked up to the statue of Mother Mary and showered flowers to the beautiful tune of Sokkod Sangatha Mellyan and Moriyek Hogolsiyan by the choir members. Fr Cyprian Carlo and visiting priest Fr Felix Pinto led the Holy Eucharistic celebration in English and Konkani and hymns too were sung in English and Konkani by the choir led by Fr Carlo.
Appetizers were served immediately thereafter and it was time for some entertainment. Members and children presented a variety of entertainment in the form of jokes, songs and dances which were thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd. Atists were Cyril and Nancy Monis, Movin D’Cruz, Vincent and Ida D’Almeida, Anil D’Souza, Lionel and Poonam Pinto, Jennifer D’Souza, Roshan Barnes, Romeo and Felcy Sequiera, Rodney and Seema Quadras, Carol and Cleressa Monis, Ryan and Ethan Sequiera, Fr Cyprian Carlo, Sean Menezes, Amit Rodrigues, Allen Barnes, Elisha D’Almeida, Ria Dias and Andrea D’Souza. Vincent D’Almeida organized and compered the entertainment and also directed the jokes.
Fr Carlo led the grace before meals and then traditional and sumptuous vegetarian dinner was served to all, which was voluntarily prepared by the families present at the event. It was a well organized family event enjoyed by one and all.
